LaLiga Real Madrid vs Valencia Live Football Score 14 Feb 2021

Real Madrid will be aiming to continue their pursuit of La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid when they welcome Valencia to the Spanish capital on Sunday afternoon.  Zinedine Zidane’s side are currently second in the table, five points behind Atletico, who also have two games in hand, while Valencia occupy 12th position in Spain’s top flight.

Real Madrid vs Valencia build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

A run of three wins across their previous four league outings leaves defending La Liga champions five points behind leaders Atletico Madrid, but Zidane’s team have played two games more and it will be tough to overcome that gap. There’s still an element of inconsistency this season, with Los Blancos keeping just one clean sheet in their past four league outings, but since a 1-0 loss at Cadiz last October only Osasuna (0-0) have managed to prevent Real scoring. At home it’s been near flawless: seven wins from 10 played to date, though two of their three losses were against sides currently in the bottom seven: Cadiz (14th) and Alaves (16th).

Los Che, who find themselves in 12th, could be encouraged by that last statistic, but they’re not exactly riding on a wave of momentum. Javi Gracia’s men have won just two of their last 13 league fixtures suffering four defeats, though two of those were against Atletico Madrid, the league’s runaway leaders. On the road Valencia have mustered just two wins from 11 matches this season, with the most recent coming at Real Valladolid’s expense.

  • Real Madrid (vs Getafe): Courtois; Mendy, Varane, Nacho; Marvin, Modric, Casemiro, Marcelo; Asensio, Benzema, Vinícius Júnior.
  • Valencia (vs Athletic Bilbao): Doménech; Correia, Gabriel, Guillamón*, Gayà; Guedes, Racic, Soler, Wass; Vallejo, Gómez.

Zinedine Zidane goes into this game missing a plethora of stars including Marcelo, Sergio Ramos and Eden Hazard, but Toni Kroos is available after suspension. Valencia, meanwhile, visit Spain’s capital without Mouctar Diakhaby, Eliaquim Mangala, Jasper Cillessen and the suspended Hugo Guillamón.

Team News

  • Toni Kroos returns from suspension this week and should make up Zinedine Zidane’s first-choice three in midfield once again.
  • Dani Carvajal and Alvaro Odriozola are both injury doubts, but Lucas Vazquez has been passed fit and should start at right-back.
  • Ferland Mendy will feature on the opposite flank, with Marcelo on the treatment table.
  • Hugo Guillamon is suspended this weekend, so on-loan defender Ferro should debut at centre-back.
  • Jasper Cillessen haș been passed fit this week after a long-term injury, but Jaume Domenech should stay in goal for now.
  • Carlos Soler is a doubt, but should start in midfield, while on-loan striker Patrick Cutrone is also carrying a knock after recently joining from Wolves.

Players to watch:

  • Real Madrid: Heading into this weekend’s fixture Karim Benzema finds himself on 11 league goals, keeping him in touching distance of winning this season’s top scorer award. The Frenchman is currently five behind leader Luis Suárez with his latest strike coming last time out against Getafe which ended a two-game drought. Benzema will fancy his chances of producing the goods this weekend given that he’s scored at least once in each of his last four league games against Valencia, his longest scoring run against them in Spain’s top division. Can the Frenchman make it five in a row?
  • Valencia: It’s never a good idea to second-guess the manager but the chances of Gracia dropping Carlos Soler when fit and ready seem remote. And that’s for no other reason than his current form wearing a Los Che jersey. The Spanish midfielder has played a key role in 10 of Valencia’s last 18 league goals (six goals and four assists). That aside, he enjoys playing against Real Madrid, having scored five past them in Spain’s top division (including a hat-trick earlier this season) which makes them his favourite La Liga opposition.
